OnePlus 5: Is It all worth it? The Pros & Cons
The Pros (Advantages)
OnePlus 5 is the first phone across India to have such kind of advanced Octacore 10 nm designed Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset processor. Combined with 6GB/64Gb or 8GB/128GB storage variants, this phone is not only very fast but battery efficient too.No mobile in India till now has launched this kind of RAM in any mobile. The high RAM keeps so many apps running in the background with no problem at all. You don’t even wait to relaunch them. Also, the device doesn’t have any kind of heating problem that is the biggest issue in most of the smartphone these days. The 10-nanometer chips keep the handset cool. The problem is not there even the mobile is charging. Thumbs up to that.
2. Dual Camera
Okay, this is the first most thing most of the user look out for in a smartphone. OnePlus 5 has come with the dual camera this time. The front camera is 8 MP and the two rear cameras at the back are in a combination of 16-megapixel lens and 20-megapixel telephoto type lens. This time the lenses are specially made by Sony.
OnePlus 5 has an aperture f/1.7 of its primary camera while an aperture of a secondary camera is f/2.6. 2x Zoom is there in a telephoto lens and both the lenses when combined together can take unimaginable photographs with a much greater depth.

3. Bluetooth 5.0
In this case, OnePlus 5 is following the steps of giant seller Samsung Galaxy S8. OnePlus 5 Bluetooth 5.0 is much faster in pairing and connecting with the other devices. Talking about the numbers, New OnePlus 5 Bluetooth has a double connection speed that can range up to 2oo meters. Better connectivity with the enhanced range can allow the users to roam around the house freely and still get a good coverage with their Bluetooth on and in playing songs through the Bluetooth speakers.
4. Dash Charge
In the world where charging phone is a big headache for everyone, fast charging is a blessing. OnePlus 5 is worthy in every way at this point without a doubt. OnePlus 5 dash charging is super fast that allows the users to charge their phone just in half an hour. This is the most impressive thing about the phone. If you are a person who does not believe in power banks or charging the phone all the time, just go for it.
5. Quick Pay
Keeping Digital India in mind, OnePlus 5 has tied up with the PayTm and has launched Quick pay feature in it. This has been done specially for the Indian consumers. Using this special feature, OnePlus 5 users will be quickly able to access or pay via PayTm app. The feature needs a fingerprint access to lock or unlock the app. This is done to keep the security of the user in mind. You just need an impression of your finger to access the Paytm barcode scanner.
The Cons (Disadvantages)
1. Not Exactly 2x ZoomTo be honest, OnePlus 5 2x zoom is a lossless zoom and not an optical one. The latter one is only 1.6x and the rest 0.4x is captured via the Smartphone’s Smart Capture technology. Not very satisfactory we would say.
2. Missing OIS Technique
Okay. So the phone offers smooth, crisp and good quality photos and videos. But if you are looking for a phone that can do wonders when it comes to low light photography, OnePlus 5 is the phone you can’t rely on. The much required OIS is missing. In the low light, you might end up with blurry images that might make you frustrated because you are spending so many bucks. We are just saying that don’t expect much from this phone in this category.
3. No IP68 Protection
OnePlus 5 is not a water or dust proof resistant phone. You will have to be extra cautious with it. Just a small fall in water will be enough to take it to a service centre. It’s just splash-proof, which means that it can bear a little bit drizzling in the rain or few drops of water over it. You will have to be a bit cautious with it that’s it.
4. Older version of USB-C 2.0 Cable
While Samsung Galaxy S8 or Google Pixel is offering you new USB-C 3.0 standard cable, the OnePlus 5 is still sticking with the USB-C 2.0. The older version USB-C 2.0 has a slower rate of data transfer.
5. No Universal Adapter
While OnePlus’s Dash Charge is a big advantage to the phone, it still has its limitations. The adapter of Dash Charger has a proprietary standard. For getting the benefit of dash charging, you will need both data cable and the adapter. If you lose or forget one, you won’t be able to manage with the slow charging. These all are pros and cons of OnePlus 5. It is available in India for Rs 32,999.
OnePlus 5 features
Before we get into OnePlus 5 specifications, let’s have a look at its features. We think that they need to be highlighted first.
The first will be its real camera. In the latest launch, OnePlus has claimed that the smartphone has the highest resolution dual-camera. It comprises of 16 megapixels (MP) back camera (the main one) with an additional 20 MP telephoto camera. Can you imagine?
The two camera can provide mind-blowing effects with the optical zoom of up to 2x. The phone will also have an increased aperture of the front back camera as compared to the one available in the last launch, OnePlus 3T. The wide aperture will allow better low light pictures with high resolution. The phone has included only EIS this time forgetting about OIS. Also, there is a pro mode for the photographers for manual adjustments.
Other Awesome features that are worth highlighting in OnePlus 5 include a support system for 34 GSM network. As per OnePlus sources, this feature is going to make the phone a “true world” phone. This time there will be an alert slider that will give you more freedom to set things according to your needs.
Just like the other OnePlus phone, this phone is also featuring the fingerprint reader on its front. You can press the home button and can unlock the phone in less than 0.2 seconds. Which we feel is going to be great. It also supports Paytm Quick Pay this time, which can be secured by your fingerprint. That will be a shortcut to open your Paytm payment page. You will just have to long press the home button to open your PayTm secure payment gateway.
OnePlus 5 specifications
Finally talking about OnePlus 5 specifications, the phone is a dual Sim Nano chip Smartphone. It runs on Oxygen OS and is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. There is a 5.5-inch HD AMOLED optic display of 1080×1920 pixels. It is having 401 pixels per inch (ppi) density and 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass level 5 protection.
Talking about the processor, OnePlus 5 has a featured octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. SoC that includes four cores clocked at 2.45GHz along with four cores clocked at 1.9GHz coupling with Adreno 540 GPU as well as 6GB/8GB of LPDDR4X RAM.
As far as the camera is concerned, there is a major improvement in this segment. OnePlus 5 dual rear camera is supporting EIS and has the main camera of 16-megapixel with a f/1.7 aperture and a sensor of 1.12-micron pixel Sony IMX398. The cherry on the cake is its telephoto camera of 20 megapixels featuring f/2.6 aperture and a sensor of 1-micron pixel Sony IMX350. The front camera of OnePlus 5, on the other hand, is of 16-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture, I micron pixels Sony IMX371 sensor, and supporting EIS.
The Smartphone OnePlus 5 has UFS 2.1 storage and as mentioned earlier is available in 6GB and 8GB storage variants. As usual, OnePlus has not included any external microSD card slot for any kind of storage expansion. Which is Sad.
